Mad Dog aka Vulture by Kaziem Mad Dog aka Vulture by Kaziem
Lego Battlemechs!

Built this for a BZPower contest.

It's a Mad Dog MkII. I built it in about 20 hours, and it's about 80% technic and 20% system pieces. The model is scaled to be 12 m tall in relation to a 1.4m tall lego figure and has all points of articulation except the ankles (for various reasons). All weapons are visible; 2x LRM 15 in r/l torso, 2x Lg pulse lasers, one per arm, 4x medium pulse lasers, 1 per arm, 2 in the chin-turret. This design would have some overheating problems because of the additional two lasers, but the reduction to LRM15s from LRM20s would help at least a bit and improve longevity.

Unfortunately, the Mad Dog design is such that it cannot stand on its own because of weight distribution. This is Battletech's fault, not mine. It can crouch just fine next to its mechwarrior, though.

I intend to do a rebuild with better coloring and improvement on some parts of design, along with moving a few pieces and proportions around. Chances are I'll go for a Ghost Bear color scheme, mainly because CGB loves these things. The rebuild isn't happening for a while, though.

Mad Dog/Vulture & Battltech copyright someone who bought Wizkids

The exact model design is however created by me.

EDIT: Wanted to mention, I hit a brick wall (pun intended) when it came to the rocket/laser tips. I flat-out don't have enough of any color to do them all, so it came out as this awful blotchy pattern. It's better than no rockets, though.

That is so frickin' awesome.
Now I wish I had the parts to make a Mad Cat.

Thanks! It's more a case of shoehorning in random parts that don't look like they'd fit in, rather than having "the parts to make it." There's usually a way to do it, though it might not be as fancy or articulated as you wanted.

Well... you got a lot more parts than I do. I don't think a bunch of Bionicle sets will make a good Mad Cat.^^;

Hehe. Try it! I built a locust out of Bionicle parts. They can be quite adaptable if you're creative. I mean, most of that Mad Dog is technic, only the left and right torsos are really system parts.

Just try building littler mechs. The bigger the mech, the harder it is to make technic ball-joints handle the weight of the mech, especially since mechs are far more top heavy than, say, Tahu.

Thanks! This took a lot of work, but combining Battletech and Legos is actually an activity I've been doing since I was 5 years old. I've got quite the bit of practice with this particular endeavor.
